Caterpillar layoffs in South Milwaukee don't surprise Baird analyst

The timing of Caterpillar Inc.â;€™s announcement that it will cut 40 percent of its South Milwaukee production work force might have raised eyebrows among local labor officials, but the layoffs didnâ;€™t surprise a Milwaukee financial analyst who covers the company.

Peoria, Ill.-based equipment manufacturer Caterpillar (NYSE: CAT), which has its global mining equipment unit based in Oak Creek, reportedly will lay off between 250 and 300 of its 810 unionized workers at Caterpillarâ;€™s South Milwaukeeâ;€¦;
