The FDA recognizes the work already done by the global food, feed and packaging industry in developing competent food, feed and packaging safety schemes, so certification by a competent certification body to a GFSI recognized schemes will be looked on favorably by the FDA in their risk assessments. This presentation will provide an executive overview that will enable you to make informed choices between the major GFSI recognized schemes. It will summarize key points in developing a multi-scheme conformant food safety management system and identify some of the pitfalls to certification. The global experience of SGS in certifying several hundred companies to these schemes will provide you with valuable insight into how audits to the major schemes are conducted and which scheme would best fit the needs of your organization. Discussion time will be allocated following the presentation to answer questions or concerns with GFSI recognized scheme certification. Victor Muliyil is the Food Technical Manager, SGS SSC North America, and serves as the primary client technical contact for food safety programs, including GFSI approved and ISO standards, across North America and the Caribbean. He is an accredited multi-sector food safety program lead auditor and trainer for FSSC 22000, BRC, SQF 1000/2000, ISO 22000/PAS 220, GMP/PRP/HACCP and ISO 9001.
