Estate Settlement Services
Whether your estate passes to your heirs by Will under probate, or passes to your designated beneficiaries by means of a Revocable Trust and avoids the probate process, certain administrative tasks are unavoidable. First Business Trust & Investments is available to do the “heavy lifting” of asset consolidation, accounting, determination of cost basis of estate assets, fiduciary tax returns, estate tax returns (if applicable), payment of debts of the decedent, inventory preparation, beneficiary distributions, and other estate-related duties. Please see the attached for additional information about our estate settlement services.
Please advise your attorney if you wish to name us in your estate planning documents either as a personal representative or a successor trustee. If a trust continues in existence after the settlement of the estate, First Business as the successor trustee could continue to serve until the trust reached its terms. Our full legal name for naming purposes is: First Business Trust & Investments, a Division of First Business Bank.
Trust Services for Businesses
First Business Trust & Investments offers comprehensive trust services for businesses. As a division of First Business Bank we are uniquely positioned to act as trustee when family businesses are placed in trust to allow family ownership to continue. We can be a critical factor in the effective estate and succession plan for a business owner seeking to maximize the value of their business, minimize taxes, and preserve family harmony. Please consider asking your attorney how a trust could be helpful to your family’s business succession planning and contact us for ways in which we may be able to help in complex or unusual situations: (608 )218-8000 (Madison), (262) 792-1400 (Milwaukee), (920) 734-1800 (Appleton), (920) 231-2400 (Oshkosh), or (920) 435-5442 (Green Bay).
Charitable Trust Services
If you are currently making regular gifts to favorite charities you may wish to continue to further the work of these organizations you believe in by including a charitable trust in your estate plan. First Business Trust & Investments is available to provide administration for a variety of charitable trusts including:
- Charitable Remainder Trusts (CRATs/CRUTs)
- Charitable Lead Trusts (CLATs/CLUTs)
- Private Foundations
As trustee, First Business provides regular trust accountings to all interested parties, prepares the fiduciary tax returns, invests and rebalances the underlying investment portfolio, makes discretionary distributions, performs a cash flow analysis for additional contributions and provides income tax charitable deduction calculations as needed.
If your charitable trust is funded with “hard to value” assets, we can arrange for appropriate valuation and sale to help you realign your investment portfolio to provide diversification of assets and increased cash flow to income beneficiaries.
We would be pleased to work with your accountant and attorney to determine how First Business Trust & Investments can best be of assistance in designing and administering a customized plan that maximizes the financial benefit to you, your family, and the charities you care most deeply about.
