MPS defends vacant building policy amid criticism

Milwaukee Public Schools is defending its existing strategies to reuse vacant buildings as district policies come under fire from state legislators as well as St. Marcus Lutheran School, which is lobbying to buy one property.

The private St. Marcus school since August has publicly pressured the MPS board for permission to buy the vacant Malcolm X Academy. The school board in August voted to convert that site to a community center, and on Sept. 26 authorized sale negotiations with 2760 Holdings LLC,â;€¦;
