Mayors urge Walker to veto budget provisions on local fees

With Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker set to sign the 2013-15 state budget Sunday, 30 mayors have written to the governor urging him to veto two little-known budget provisions.

The two provisions, in sections 1271 and 1277 of the budget, affect municipal fees for fire protection, snow plowing and street sweeping, among other services. The provisions would, in effect, require municipalities to get voter approval for fee increases, as they already have to do for tax levy hikes, and would increase municipalities’â;€¦;
