Inside Wisconsin: WisconsinÂ’;s maturing biotech economy means storms can be weathered

Some of the 130 or so workers at MadisonÂ’;s Hologic Inc. facility were among the first employees of Third Wave Technologies, which was born in the mid-1990s in the labs of UW-Madison and grew so quickly that its stock was listed on the NASDAQ exchange by 2001. TheyÂ’;re still the same talented molecular biologists, laboratory technicians and product designers today they were 15 years ago, but beginning Sept. 30, all 130 will lose their jobs over the next two years.
