We have three speakers that will explain how to do this through federal and state economic development programs, capital finance programs, grants, and business tax credits.
Mary E. Perry is Area Development Manager in the Division of Business Development with the State of Wisconsin Department of Commerce. She has worked in various areas at Commerce since 1999; and since April 2007, Mary has been responsible for major economic development activities in Region 6--Southeastern Wisconsin. As part of Governor Jim Doyle's "Grow Wisconsin" initiative, Mary works with in-state companies that are expanding their operations and with out-of-state companies to "attract" them to Wisconsin. Area development managers all over the state also promote business retention and work with local economic development professionals to grow regional economies. In addition to Mary's expertise in economic development, her background includes over 15 years of successful sales and marketing experience in private industry. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology.
Keith Bergen, Regional Account Manager for WMEP (Wisconsin Manufacturing Extension Partnership), will talk about federal and state grant opportunities. Keith has enjoyed a highly successful career in sales, management, and marketing. His 30 plus years of experience in the CRM (Cardiac Rhythm Management) device market was highlighted by coordinating and implementing clinical product investigational studies. His career path with Medtronic, Guidant and Biotronik added to the skill set he brings to WMEP. Additionally, he worked for Siemens Medical Nuclear Imaging division, managing the PET (Positron Emission Tomography) scanner sales effort. Keith also has broadcasting background in television and radio that enhances his presentation and communication skills. He is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin - Madison.
Scott Henkel, CPA for Chortek & Gottschalk, LLP, will talk about business tax credit opportunities. In his position at Chortek & Gottschalk, LLP, Scott is responsible for keeping the firm updated and trained on new tax laws and opportunities. He has experience in income taxation, tax planning, and tax compliance for businesses and individuals. He uses his knowledge of multi-state taxation to evaluate the potential tax impacts of business decisions on a multi-state and federal level for his firm's clients. Scott is a member of the American Institute of CPAs and the Wisconsin Institute of CPAs. He is also an active member of the Franklin Lions Club. Scott graduated from the University of Wisconsin - Whitewater with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Accounting. He went on to receive his Master of Science in Taxation from the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee.
